Warts

Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They commonly appear on the hands, feet, and other areas of the body. Warts are contagious and can spread through direct contact with an infected person or contaminated surfaces. While generally harmless, warts can be unsightly, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, particularly when they occur on the feet (plantar warts).

Types of Warts

Common Warts (Verruca Vulgaris)

Typically found on the hands and fingers, common warts are rough, raised bumps with a rough texture.

Plantar Warts

Found on the soles of the feet, plantar warts can be painful and are often flat due to the pressure from walking.

Flat Warts (Verruca Plana)

These are small, flat, and smooth warts that commonly appear on the face, neck, or hands.

Filiform Warts

Thin, thread-like warts that usually develop on the face, particularly around the mouth, eyes, or nose.

Periungual Warts

Found around the fingernails and toenails, periungual warts can be painful and affect nail growth.

Genital Warts

Occur in the genital area and are sexually transmitted. These warts require specialized treatment.
