Cough

A Cough is a reflex action to clear your airways of mucus, irritants, foreign particles, and microbes. Coughing can be voluntary or involuntary and can be acute or chronic, depending on its duration and underlying cause.

Types of Cough

Acute Cough:

1. Lasts less than three weeks.

2. Commonly caused by respiratory infections such as the common cold, flu, or bronchitis

Subacute Cough:

1. Lasts between three to eight weeks.

2. Often follows a respiratory infection.

Chronic Cough:

1. Lasts longer than eight weeks.

Productive (Wet) Cough:

1. Produces mucus or phlegm.

Non-productive (Dry) Cough:

1. Does not produce mucus or phlegm.

2. Often caused by irritation or inflammation in the throat or airways.
