Ear imbalance

Ear imbalance, also known as vestibular dysfunction, is a condition where the balance system in the inner ear fails to function properly, leading to dizziness, vertigo, and unsteadiness. The inner ear plays a critical role in maintaining equilibrium by sending signals to the brain about head and body movements. When these signals are disrupted, it can cause symptoms ranging from mild disorientation to severe vertigo, affecting daily activities and quality of life.

Types of Ear Imbalance

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

The most common cause of vertigo, BPPV occurs when tiny calcium crystals (otoconia) within the inner ear become dislodged and move into the semicircular canals.

Meniere’s Disease

A chronic inner ear disorder characterized by episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and a feeling of fullness in the ear.

Labyrinthitis

Inflammation of the inner ear (labyrinth), causing vertigo, hearing loss, and possible nausea.

Vestibular Neuritis

Inflammation of the vestibular nerve, which connects the inner ear to the brain, leading to sudden, severe vertigo.

Acoustic Neuroma

A non-cancerous tumor on the vestibulocochlear nerve that can affect balance and hearing.
