Hemiplegia

Hemiplegia is a condition characterized by paralysis of one side of the body. It is often caused by brain injuries, such as stroke or traumatic brain injury, that affect the motor centers in the cerebral hemispheres opposite to the side of paralysis. 

Types

Congenital Hemiplegia

Present at birth, often due to cerebral palsy or brain malformation.

Acquired Hemiplegia

Develops later in life due to factors like stroke, head injury, brain tumor, or infection.

Spastic Hemiplegia

Characterized by increased muscle tone and stiffness on one side of the body.

Flaccid Hemiplegia

Marked by decreased muscle tone and floppiness on one side of the body.
